Cooking is such a routine activity that it is easy to forget that the high temperatures involved can easily start a fire. During 2017–2021, cooking was the leading cause of reported home2 fires and home fire injuries and the second leading cause of home fire deaths.3

According to the NFPA. cooking causes an average of 158,400 home structure fires per year in the US.  These fires result in roughly 470 civilian deaths and 4,150 civilian injuries.
