Grand Rapids Fire Department - "On May 18th
, 2023 @ 1319, Grand Rapids VFD was paged out to a duplex fire with the north side
unit showing fire out of one of the living room windows. First to arrive on scene, almost
simultaneously, were AC Rusch, and our Police Chief, Melvin Pedersen. While AC Rusch was
donning his turnout gear, Chief Pedersen, retrieved his FST device and with AC Rusch's consent,
he deployed the device.
Even though the fire was somewhat advanced, the device still darkened the flames and bought us
some time until the first due engine would arrive. With the aid of the FST device and the response
of the firefighters, we were able to keep the damage to the one side of the duplex only,
completely saving both garage stalls and the south unit of the duplex.
Our township has used these devices for several years, and several times with great success. We
have one in every police cruiser we own, and I carry one in the FD command vehicle. I would
recommend these devices to any agency as another tool in your toolbox."
Wheaton Fire and Rescue - "our previous FST was deployed during a residential structure fire in early April where an individual
was believed to be inside. The FST was deployed, and it worked exactly as it should. The flames were
immediately extinguished, and we were able to locate the victim and evacuate them to safety. Unfortunately,
the victim succumbed to the fire. However, we wholeheartedly believe that the FST ultimately made it safer for
responders to reach the victim in a timely matter.
We are now firm believers in the capabilities of the FST, even more so than before. It truly is an essential piece
of equipment. We are budgeting funds to purchase more of these units in the future, so we can equip more
apparatus with an FST.
Again, on behalf of our dedicated members, and the community we serve- THANK YOU!"
Washington County Sheriff's Department - On Monday, April 24, 2023, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a rural residential house fire in the Town of Addison. Upon arrival of the first deputy, the fire was in the basement and rapidly spreading to the first floor of the structure. When the second deputy arrived, a Fire Suppression Tool (FST) was deployed into the basement of the structure.
The deployment of the FST was highly effective in extinguishing a large portion of the fire by interrupting the fire cycle. We have found this tool to be extremely advantageous in our service to both our more rural and urbanized parts of the county. Typically, law enforcement arrives on scene and can only be reactive by removing occupants from the threat of fire. This tool finally allows us to be proactive and suppress the fire. The early deployment of the FST provides the fire departments precious time to conduct successful operations.
I have no doubt this use of the FST contributed to saving the structure and the family’s personal possessions."
City of Omro Police Department - "I was excited when our department received Fire Suppressions Solutions Fire Suppression Tool(FST). Before receiving the FST, the only tool I had as a Law Enforcement Officer to respond to structure fires was a small fire extinguisher. Recently, I responded to a structure fire where smoke and flames were visible inside of a three-car detached garage. I was the first Officer on scene and the fire apparatus were still several minutes out. Up to this point, the fire had been contained to a single bay inside the garage. Knowing there was a high probability the fire would spread into the additional bays, the decision to utilize the FST was made. The device was activated and tossed into the garage bay with the active fire. After the 8 second delay, you could hear the FST device activate and begin to do its job. By the time the fire apparatuses arrived, the fire had been all but knocked down. The FST had done an excellent job containing the fire to the single bay and greatly reduced the amount of work fire personnel had to perform, and the damage caused to the rest of the structure. According to the fire personnel on scene, the FST device saved the garage from fully engulfing as the fire had begun to spread into the rafters. Both Law Enforcement and Fire Personnel were very pleased with the results from the FST, and will be utilizing them more in the future."
Dunn County Sheriff's Office - "On 10/18/23, I responded to 1009 Nordveien Dr. Boyceville, Dunn County, Wisconsin, for a report of a structure fire. When I arrived on scene, I observed flames and smoke coming from inside one of the apartments. I was able to grab my FST unit from my squad car and deploy it into the apartment. In the moment, it was very easy to pull the pins and toss the unit into the building without putting myself or others in danger. Once the unit was deployed, I could see the flames and smoke quickly dissipate. This provided enough time for the firefighters to arrive on scene and put out the fire. The FST contained the fire to a single unit and prevented the rest of the building from catching on fire. The neighbors on both ends of the apartment were able to return to their apartments after the fire cleared the scene. I highly recommend the FST unit and would encourage every department to invest in these units."
